KUALA LUMPUR — From October 16 to 18, 2026, AFS Malaysia successfully hosted its Orientation Facilitators Workshop in Kuala Lumpur, bringing together dedicated individuals passionate about intercultural learning and education.

This intensive three-day workshop was designed to equip facilitators with the skills, tools and insights needed to deliver two core AFS educational programmes: the AFS Student Learning Journey (SLJ) and the AFS Host Family Learning Journey (HFLJ). Through these modules, our newly trained facilitators will play a crucial role in supporting and empowering exchange students, host families, volunteers and local schools throughout their transformative intercultural experiences.

Backed by Nearly a Century of Educational Expertise

What truly sets the AFS experience apart is its strong educational foundation. AFS continues to invest heavily in research-based frameworks, drawing on nearly a century of expertise in global intercultural exchange. This rigorous pedagogical approach ensures that facilitators are guided by world-class standards as they lead reflection sessions, workshops and AFS preparatory orientation activities across Malaysia.

Beyond the Field: Personal and Professional Growth

While the primary goal of the workshop is to support participants in the field, the benefits extend far beyond orientation sessions. Stepping into the role of an AFS facilitator opens remarkable doors for personal and professional development—offering invaluable experience in non-formal education, group facilitation, conflict resolution, leadership and cross-cultural training. The programme is designed with three phases including the in-person workshop, train back sessions, learning session outline mentoring, mock sessions and a mentor-mentee pairing for knowledges transfer.
