Beginnings of AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia

During World War I & II, young Americans served overseas as volunteer ambulance drivers in the American Field Service, evacuating the wounded from the battlefields and helping to liberate concentration camp survivors. When they returned home, they founded a movement to promote peace through international student exchange, known today as AFS Intercultural Programs. They knew then what we also know now: Today’s students are tomorrow’s leaders.

AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia became part of the AFS International network in 1958. AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia has 14 chapters across the country; each represents a state. Local volunteers work hard year-round to provide you with the most satisfying intercultural experience possible. AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia has welcomed AFS’ers from many countries over the years, some as far flung as Costa Rica, Argentina and Brazil while others are closer to home, like Japan and Australia.

Beginning August 2007, AFS Antarabudaya has embarked on its 50 Years Anniversary Campaign, and the celebrations will continue till August 2008. With the tagline ‘50 Years of Respecting Differences”, AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia hopes to continue spreading its mission and key messages to fellow Malaysians on the importance of Intercultural Understanding and Peace.
