Saturday, 5th July 2008, Ipoh – Atty Sulaiman, National Director of AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia was awarded the “Ambassador for Peace” Award. With a tagline of “A New Vision for Leadership”, the seminar was organized to expand the local Ambassadors for Peace network here in Malaysia and with this in mind, the programs will introduce the core values and practices of peace of the Universal Peace Federation. The seminar featured guest such as Y.A.B Dato’ Seri Ir. Hj Mohammad Nizar bin Jamaluddin, Tan Sri Datuk Paduka Dr Hjh Saleha Haji Mohammad Ali, Tan Sri Datin Paduka Seri Hjh Zaleh Ismail and many more prominent figures.
Ambassador for Peace are part of a global network of leaders representing the religious, racial and ethnic diversity of the human family, as well as all disciplines of human endeavor (including government, religion, the media, academia, business, the arts, civil society and on all levels of education)
The Ambassador for Peace designation is significant recognition and also a commission. This initiative was launched in 2001, more the 250,000 Ambassadors for Peace have been appointed around the world. It has become the world’s largest and most diverse network of peace leaders.
They stand on the common ground of shared principles and are committed to the path of promoting reconciliation, overcoming barriers, and building peace
11 Malaysian Ambassadors were awarded the Ambassador for Peace award. Each Ambassador for Peace also commits themselves to work in various areas of Global Peace Festival such as Partnership, Sponsorship, Media promotion etc. Among the awardees are Datuk Majunda, Tan Sri Dato Seri V Jeyaratnam Chairman of Yayasan Sultan Idris Shah), and many more.
Atty Sulaiman, National Director of AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia first joined AFS as a host family to American students. Later on she embarked on one year program to New Zealand on AFS program. She joined as an official staff 14 years ago. She first started as Program Assistant under the leadership of Ivy Josiah and later got promoted to Program Manager. Atty’s family has been an avid supporter of AFS mission, always opening their home to hosting students from all around the world. Married with 3 children she now heads AFS Antarabudaya Malaysia as the National Director for the past 5 years.
